CBC Fremantle Sport update

Dear Students and Families of CBC Fremantle

First of all, thank you for your support through all of the Term 1 sporting endeavours. We had a very busy start to the year with House Swimming and House Cross Country carnivals. We commenced our inaugural season in the SASJ competition and played interschool cricket and senior and junior basketball. We also selected interschool tennis and swimming teams, who unfortunately were unable to compete in their competitions due to the current situation.

All of these things would not have been possible without the support provided by our students, parents and staff to the training, trials and competition across Term 1. I thank all of you for your work so far this year. It is unfortunate that the future of these opportunities for our boys is uncertain, as are a lot of other things at the present moment.

Our students compete in two associations, the Associated & Catholic Colleges (ACC) and School Sport WA (SSWA). These competitions have recently given us an update about what the rest of 2020 looks like for sport.

The current information from the ACC states that all competitions for Term 1 have been cancelled with all Term 2 highly likely to be postponed indefinitely. This will include anything that was to be followed on from Term 1 (eg senior and junior basketball). Hopefully all Term 3 sport will still proceed, but we are waiting for further information from the ACC about whether any other events will be rescheduled for later in the year.

SSWA has cancelled all Term 1 and Term 2 events, so none of these will be rescheduled for 2020. This will impact many events, the biggest being the All Schools Cross Country carnival. This also affects our hockey and football teams from Year 8 to Year 12.

I know that many of our boys require physical activity, especially sport, to balance their physical and mental health on a regular basis. Sadly, we are unable to offer these opportunities at the moment but as soon as possible we will commence trials and training for Term 3 sports. We are receiving regular updates from our competitions so we will keep you posted as the information is received.

In the meantime, if you have questions regarding sport at CBC Fremantle please feel free to contact me at troym@cbcfremantle.wa.edu.au.

Kind regards,

Mr Troy Mollica
